Render unto "Caesar?"

May I submit the following rewrite of the popular view on PAYING TAXES. It is a sacred privilege for me, a "high" wage earner, to support the poor. To be sure that they have access to the goods and services (not to mention fire, police, roads, public transportation, etc.) that I could somehow buy.

When the bible speaks of "render unto Caesar," remember that in that type of system (with an actual non-elected dictator, very little of that money went to the poor. So in a real sense,in a democracy, when I pay my taxes (along with my tithes and offerings) I am "rendering unto God," because each human being was created in God's image.

Is there corruption? Absolutely, in both religious and political spheres--and in my own heart. But that won't keep me from JOYOUSLY signing that tithe check... And my tax return. And I will be ever diligent as I cast my vote.

"God, grant conviction and guidance to those to whom it falls to appropriate taxes for the needs of we the people." Amen
