2 Chronicles 7:14
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
As Esther petitioned God Almighty and her husband, the King, so do I and so should we petition God to have mercy on our nation and forgive us for what we have tolerated and allowed (i.e. taking prayer out of school, abortion being made legal, gay marriages, US debt, allowing people into our country who hate America.) None of this should be. We are God's people and have His love, power and authority. Shalom. GOD BLESS YOU. And may GOD help the USA.

Kirk,

Just read the comments. If you don't mind, let me think about it for awhile and respond. Very interested in the President's first 100 days. He certainly came into a MESS!

Why is it that as we get older, we pray for the things that are really the most important. My family, my friends, my community ......Wisdom. You think Solomon was onto something????? How about special reading of Psalms and Proverbs. My Bible is worth the price for any of those to Books. Amen!

Chuck, I hope you checked back in to read my response here – sorry it took so long! I really appreciate both your willingness to take the time and your apparent sincere love for your country.

Allow me to begin by saying that I respect you and your opinion. I truly don't believe that we'll ever get anything done to lower abortion rates or effect the "moral compass" of our country by convincing one that the other is "right." I don't know anything Chuck. The more I read my bible, the more I study church history as well as world history, the less I know. I know Jesus. I love Him. I belong to Him and I want to see His Kingdom come, not just in America, but in Iraq and Sudan and all over.

So I offer my opinion here with great sadness knowing that only His love can bring about true change.

Let me be clear that I share your concern for the "moral compass" of this country. I also believe that the moral failures of the Bush administration speak for themselves, if we have what Revelations refers to as "ears to hear." I believe that the issue of abortion is a vital one. I also believe, along with fine Christian folks like Frank Schaeffer (Francis' son) that this one issue was used by many in the Bush administration to manipulate "the base" to win their vote. It's a fact.

The issue of abortion (which is normally what many conservatives are referring to when they use terms like "morals") is far too nuanced and complex to swipe with a broad brush, and frankly the other issues which defined that administration such as torture, neglect of the poor (Katrina, etc.), croneyism and shear arrogance, cry out to God with as much force as abortion – read carefully the account of why God judged Sodom and Gomorrah and you'll see a lot about justice towards the poor and weak.

Further, I believe that many of us who are Christians but who do not take such a "black and white" stance on issues such as abortion and gay rights (allowing for God to actually be the Judge), voted for Barack Obama because, while he supports abortion rights, has said repeatedly that neither he nor his wife are "for" abortion (only a very confused or just evil person would be "for" killing babies) but is convinced that the old tactics for dealing with this heartbreaking issue HAVE NOT BROUGHT THE NUMBER OF ABORTIONS DOWN. In other words, I am very clear-headed about my vote. I am against AGAINST abortion. But I am also against allowing the abortion rates to remain at a standstill because many are not willing to try listening for a change (instead of wagging our proverbial finger in peoples' faces).

But I also believe that if we can manage to inspire some consensus across party and ideological lines, we may actually be able (as President Obama suggests) to bring the number of abortions in this country down. Would that not be a good thing?

Now, that having been said, can we please talk about some of the other issues that I believe we have swept under the rug for the last 8 years as we held ONE ISSUE up to the light as the (in the words of another contributer here) "litmus test" for morality? Abortion is terrible. But it is not the only test. God's precious children (many of them babies) who suffered and died in Louisiana and Mississippi (Katrina) as well as in Iraq also deserve our righteous indignation.

Can someone admit that our motives for invading those peoples' land were IMMORAL?

And finally I direct my appreciation and admiration towards you Chuck and my precious few friends, like George, who faithfully follow this podcast and lend to folks like me your ideas, so that we might learn from each other. Ultimately Jesus Himself will straighten out our wrinkles when He returns. In the meantime, may there be one less woman today who, because of the prayers and attention (not arguments) of some caring person, Christian or not, choose life; and may some culturally insulated Christian reach out to listen and understand, rather than wag their finger.

Respectfully,
Kirk

I like your music, but disappointed in who will assume the White House. Our country is in for some worrisome days with this new administration. Our country is already on a sad moral compass, and the results of the election amplify that. God bless America!

Hi Kirk je te retrouve sur ta page web après les bons moments a Omaha que nous avons passé
votre CD Roundtrip est magnifique

Hi Kirk,

I love your music. A friend introduced me to your "Gospel According to Jazz and I the 1 & 2. I would like to know did you play the song Redeemer, originally by Nicole Mulligan? If so, please tell me the name of the album so I can purhas it. Thanx, I love you and keep on doing what you are doint.

Hi Mr. Kirk,

I am Tassa Santos, Brazil am of Belém do Pará, which is near the Amazon. I knew his work from the DVD "The Gospel According to Jazz: Chapter 2" I was amazed by the excellence of the work. I joined the group in praise of my church (Missionary Baptist Church of the Amazon), my husband is pianist, like much the George Duke, and sometimes starts playing some instrumental worship of the DVD or CD.
Met the group of praise to watch the DVD, we want to do the service of God with excellence in technology and unction and I think you are a good example for us.
We have the vision to restore all the rhythms and art to the service of God, so the group is "Reconciliation", reconciled to God everything and everyone.
I would buy the other DVDs and CDs, but here it is very difficult to find and when we find it is very expensive, I am searching for shopping and search sites, but so far only managed to buy CD "The Gospel According to Jazz: Chapter 1", I have the DVD "The Gospel According to Jazz: Chapter 2" and I am hoping "The Gospel According to Jazz: Chapter 3", I have all your disks, because I love the sound and I also like to worship God Instrumental with.
Much admire your work and dream one day to watch a show for you!
Excuse the errors of English, still can not write very well.
May God bless your life!

Tassa Santos.

Hello Kirk, I just wanted to say good job for all that you do. I had the opportunity to sing background for you a while back in Houston for the benefit concert you did with Regina Bell. I didn't know much about who you were and what you did other than be a great musician until then. I am greatful that you choose to be positive and motivational to the public and take ownership of the social resposibilites that a lot of artists don't do as openly as you do. Your comments make people think about why they think the way they do and I just Pray that more of this is done in the open so that my children can learn from good examples.
Again Thank You.

I did originally support McCain, but, it doesn't bother me. I like Obama, I don't care about the color of his skin. Mines, white, his is black, and God doesn't care, and neither do I. I'm excited for what God has in store. And just because he may not feel the same way about things as we do, we must pray for him and his family, that God may be his head. That God will fall upon the white house like a rain. Obama has this potential, and I would very like to see it happen.
Bless,

Thanks Joseph. Question: Do you assume that because you disagree with the president-elect on abortion (one issue) that he and those of us who voted for him do not share your high moral ground? Is that the only compass? Could there be more issues over which God's heart is broken? Can you name any other issues besides the "big two" that cause you to say this? How much time do you spend in poor neighborhoods?

Thanks my friend. I'll be on the Wayman Tisdale cruise!!! I sure hate to miss the inauguration. I don't think he's so much a "smooth" fan, though I'm not in love with that word – I like "C-Jazz" as Trinity from XM calls it. He's a Coltrane dévoté, as am I. Do you think Otis Reading might be somewhere in Heaven right now with a hanky singing "A change is gonna come, sho' nuff' it is!" Forget the hanky... no tears in heaven. I'd like to take you on a tour of this normally depressed, poverty-stricken neighborhood this fine Sunday. There's a new pep in the step of some folks who had all but given up.

lets not allow our new pres to bypass our moral filters just because he shares our pigment. Jesus wouldn't.

Well the election is over, our country has decided, I will have a new President who, along with our Congress will need the Church's prayer for the Many tasks at hand. As several of you know, I'm sure to struggle with the previously declared policies. I can hope/pray for the best!!!!
It is a testament to this country and its people (God ordained.... I believe) and Freedom for the events past and soon to occur.

In January 2009 we will have a NEW first family..I know some our excited (for many a good reason) but even BO realizes he isn't President yet....

Kirk...keep us posted if you get the call to play for the President..I wanna know...does he have a taste for good music?

Thank you for writing Bob. Isn't this a pretty big leap of logic? I never said that, I know Barack never said it. Why do you say it? It reminds me of Sarah Palin's ill-chosen terminology; "terrorist, Socialist, etc." Help me to understand how you come to this conclusion.
Blessings,

"With God all things are possible" I thank God for the process of freedom that we are allowed to participate in this country. I salute President Obama!

It is a wonderful day because change has finally come.

Congratulations to Obama and all the America

Yeah, now it's time for some reparations against the ole white man.

Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary would never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.” -Rev Jeremiah Wright(pastor and spiritual guidance for Obama)

Dr. King is FINALLY seeing his dream become a reality!!!!!

Glory, honor, power, blessing and praise to the Most High God!

YES, YES, YES!!! Prayers have been heard, change has come, glory to He who is most wise!
