Guitars & Saxes from last year
I have to say that last year's Guitars & Saxes Tour, featuring Gerald Albright, Jeff Golub and Tim Bowman, was one of the most incredible experiences of my career! I have loads of fun memories from my time on the road with these guys. Here's the whole band:
Back row - Gerald, Tim, bassist Nathaniel Phillips, Jeff, Marlon McClain, Ryan Cornelius
Front - Ricky Lawson, Arlington Jones & KW
Stax Still Sending Soulful Kids to the World!
This pic is from the recent Snap After School Spring Concert at the Stax/Soulsville Music Academy here in Memphis. My tenure as AIR (Artist In Residence) at Stax for these two years has honestly been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I wish you could have been there saturday night! It's so hard to describe how awesome these students are. Do yourself a favor and plan a trip to Memphis soon!
Abba Accepts You Mommy
On this fine Mother's Day I would like to humbly offer twin words of encouragement. The first and more obvious is for all the mothers and grandmothers and aunts and stepmothers, and "bad-mother-shut-yo' mouths..." I'm talkin' bout soon-to-be-mothers!" But we can dig it! More love, more grace and more power to y'all!
¡Cinco de Mayo in Tennessee!
Today I had the time of my life, shared with some precious people, and fulfilled a life-long (OK maybe 20 year-long) dream! I performed - even SANG!! - at a Cinco de Mayo celebration sponsored by my former church, Strong Tower Bible Church in Franklin, Tennessee.
In particular it was a goal of mine to be able to minister, to share the incredible love of Jesus with people in a language not my own. With the help of three beautiful and gifted singers as well as the excellent musicians of STBC, I sang Santana's "Oye Como Va" and even the Cuban traditional song "Guantanamera."
